HUSKERLAND WRESTLING INSURANCE: AAU
As
was discussed this past spring, we are making a move to AAU for our insurance
needs. After reviewing all the facts and seeking feedback from many sources, it
appears to be the best avenue for our future. Last spring those of you who
filled out a feedback form indicated that you would support a move to AAU. 17 of
you said you would like a move, 3 said you would like to stay USA and 5 would
support either way. When the board met for the summer meeting, the vote was
unanimous to make the move to AAU.
Our goal is to make the transition easy and painless for you as you approach
the upcoming season. This letter should help you do just that.
So what’s in it for you and the club!
1. First of all, enrollment of all athletes can be done easily and
painlessly
online at the AAU Website. You can have parents do it online or a club
member. There will access to the cardholders and their numbers online, and cards
can be printed from online if the need be. You will be able to print cards off
or get the numbers written down and put on the club database. Either way it will
be easy. When entering for cards, just make sure that you enter that the card
will be used for WRESTLING. The last thing you will do is punch in the
Huskerland code for the card and you will be set! Our Code # is:
NBWRT94KB9
2. Clubs will be covered for site insurance (including practices and local
tournaments). Huskerland will cover this insurance cost under the Huskerland
umbrella. This will be a substantial savings for clubs. It will be important
for clubs to pay their Huskerland dues first – costs are listed below:
Club Dues - Mailed by Feb. 1, 2009 $40
Club Dues - Mailed by Mar. 1, 2009 $60
Club Dues - Mailed by Mar. 15, 2009 $80
(instructions on how to pay are on the Huskerland
web)
and then all you will have to do is to send your practice site info to Jason
Cullison. He will enter it under the Huskerland umbrella at this time. We will
need the first round of information for our early clubs by November 1. Once
Jason gets all the info, he will get it registered and send each club a PDF of
the insurance binder to be used as each club sees fit. We will do another round
in Mid January for our late starting clubs who aren’t organized yet. Jason’s
email and what he needs will be on our website and listed below:
Facility Name
Address
City, State, Zip
Contact Name
Phone Number
(Jason’s email address:
cully11@hotmail.com)
Even if your school doesn’t require liability or negligence insurance, it is
really good to have that protection in hand. Before you can get the insurance
coverage, however, you will need to pay your yearly club dues for Huskerland.
3. Huskerland will also be covering your tournament insurance. Under our
umbrella, we will be covering each local tournament so that you won’t have to
purchase a liability or negligence insurance binder. This will be included in
the above coverage. All you have to do is make an honest effort to have people
in your tournament hold AAU cards. You can do this by putting the card
requirement and info on the signup sheet or you can have people purchase cards
from a computer onsite. If you would need to sell cards, just collect $ and
info, and the wrestler will be covered immediately.
Site and tournament insurance is a benefit for you and paid by Huskerland.
You can choose to use it or you don’t have to. It just makes practical sense to
have coverage when using someone’s facility. This would be an easy and cheap way
to do so.
4. There are two levels of cards you can get. The $12 card will be good for
all AAU events. This would include Huskerland, AAU state, AAU Ironman, and many
local tournaments. The $14 card will be good for any tournament anywhere as a
blanket coverage. That doesn’t mean you can go to a USA tournament and NOT have
a USA card………but it does mean that if you are injured at any tournament, you
have secondary insurance coverage.
5. While the AAU card is slightly more expensive than the USA card, we feel
that it is a better deal for our clientele. The coverage is actually as good or
better than USA, and each club gets the benefit of free practice site insurance
and local tournament insurance. With the money that comes back to Huskerland
from the cards, we can continue to expand offerings and programs to develop
wrestling in Nebraska. We are also able to keep the cost of the Huskerland State
at the same low cost you have been used to in the past. With costs going through
the roof, it is nice to not have to worry about a Huskerland increase.
6. Additionally, cardholders will be able to use their cards for the AAU
state and the Ironman World Folkstyle Championships both held at UNO. You can
get more information about these two tournaments by logging on to
http://mavwrestling.com. In addition to these two choices within the borders
of Nebraska, other opportunities exist all around us. There are Grand Nationals
in Colorado, National Duals in Iowa, Regional action in South Dakota……..and the
list goes on and on!
